Edition: Unknown. Signed in pencil, Winkler J W, lower center; titled, Facades, extreme lower left, possibly in another's hand.

Excellent condition. Good margins. Printed on parchment style wove paper. A print belonging to John Winkler's well-known San Francisco, Chinatown, series. Probably etched circa 1920, the signature immediately beneath the center of the image indicates a later printing date, probably the 1950s. Monogram in plate, lower right. Illustrated and discussed in Millman and Bohn (1994).

Edition: Unknown - but has been suggested by others as being 30. Signed in pencil, Winkler J W, lower center; also signed in the plate, Winkler, titled, Pickle Herring Wharf, extreme lower right, in the plate, very difficult to read, but possible.

Image: 6 3/4 x 10 1/16 inches (171 x 250 mm). Sheet: 10 x 12 7/8 inches (254 x 327 mm).

Excellent condition. Good margins. Printed on cream wove paper. Appears to have never been neither matted nor framed. The signature immediately beneath the center of the image indicates a later printing date, probably the 1950s (see Millman and Bohn 1994). No monogram visible. Done while John Winkler was visiting the London area between 1925 and 1928. Pickle Herring Wharf is located on the Thames River, London. The print won a silver medal, 1930, Printmakers of California. Occasionally erroneously titled Pickled Herring Wharf, however I see no "d" in the plate title. Also, Pickle Herring is a place, try Google or Bing. Not referenced in Millman and Bohn 1994. A beautifully executed print!
