Artist: Marion Gothard Wallace (1879-1980)
|
"Desert Palms" circa 1917-1919, Color Woodcut. Edition: Not stated - but no doubt a very small edition. Signed, Marion Gothard Wallace, lower right; titled, Desert Palms, lower left. Reference: Hughes:2:1159. Image: 8 x 4 13/16 inches (203 x 122 mm). Sheet: 10 1/16 x 6 inches (255 x 152 mm). Excellent condition. Good margins. Printed on cream wove paper. Marion Gothard Wallace, a Southern California artist and follower of the aesthetics of Arthur Wesley Dow, was living in Los Angeles between 1917 and 1919 - a time in which she experimented with woodblock printing. An excellent printed example of the Southern California Arts and Crafts movement and its perception of the desert. $900.00 |
