As a resident of Arizona for almost 25
years my interest in Southwestern archaeology, art, and the history of
its Native American people has been of central importance.
For slightly more than 17 years I was the collections and archives manager for the
Amerind Foundation Museum in southeastern Arizona, (at that time an
archaeological research facility). It was while working at the Amerind
that I developed a curiosity about the Tohono O’odham people and their
relationship with their prehistoric ancestors the Hohokam.
Produced by
Arcadia Publishing - The Tohono O'odham and Pimeria Alta -
utilizes almost exclusively historic documents from the exceptional collections and
archives of the Arizona Historical Society in Tucson. With the help of
AHS staff I was able to
bring together a fascinating selection of 189 photographs and maps
on the Tohono O’odham (formerly the Papago) and a land the Spanish called Pimeria Alta.
As an active and avid supporter and member of the Arizona
Historical Society, I hope that this book will bring about
additional interest in Arizona's remarkable history.
