"The UVX, Jerome" 1940, Lithograph. Edition: 150. Signed in pencil, Edgar Dorsey Taylor, lower right; titled and numbered, The UVX, Jerome 56/150, lower left. Image: 11 3/16 x 9 inches (283 x 228 mm). Sheet: 19 x 11 13/16 inches (482 x 299 mm). Reference: Kiehl and Beall 1991:Plate 51. Excellent condition. Good margins. Printed on off-white wove paper, watermarked Warren's Oldstyle. The United Verde Extension, or the UVX as it was more commonly called, was a copper mine that operated in Jerome, Arizona, from 1922 to 1938. Published by the San Francisco Chronicle as part of their 1940 contemporary graphics program and probably printed by Ray Bertrand. Illustrated in Graphic Excursions (Kiehl and Beall 1991) where it is given the date "c. 1935." I agree with others that the correct date is 1940 and not earlier. SOLD |
