Artist: Alice Connell Shupp (1896-1984)
|
"Navajo Indian Children" circa 1920s, Watercolor. Edition: Unique. Signed in red watercolor, Alice Cónnell Shupp, lower right; titled on detached label. Image: 10 1/2 x 8 3/4 inches (266 x 222 mm). Excellent condition. Painted full sheet on heavy watercolor paper and trimmed by the artist to size. A slight bit of masking tape residue from previous mount, otherwise fine. Alice Connell Shupp was a Las Vegas, New Mexico, artist, evidently born there and never left. She passed away in 1984 and is buried in the Masonic cemetery. Who's Who in American Art gives a short listing and a few tangential references. Another good artist that we need to know about. As stated the watercolor is in excellent condition considering age with little if any fading evident. A label attached to the back of the original mat reads: "Navajo Indian Children"--- by Alice Cónnell Shupp, To Exhibitor or Purchaser: The artist has used as nearly permanent water colours as it is possible to obtain, but to reduce fading to a minimum hang painting on a wall on which is no glare of light." $1,250.00 |
