"From a Desert Mountain" circa 1930, Etching and Drypoint.

Edition: 30. Signed in pencil, Marylka Modjeska, lower right; titled and numbered, From a Desert Mountain  11/30, lower left.

Excellent condition. Good margins. Printed on off-white wove paper. Very nice Arizona desert landscape scene with saguaro and ocotillo standing mid-image on a barren and rocky hillside. Marylka (Pattison) Modjeska, known less formally as Mary, was born in Chicago, Illinois, eventually making here way to Tucson, Arizona. Tracing her history is not made easy when she is referred to in Tucson newspapers and publications as either Mrs. Mary Pattison or occasionally Mrs. Sidney F. Pattison. She studied etching with Provincetown printmaker George Senseney and with others at the Académie Julian in Paris. She exhibited her work at the Chicago Institute of Art in 1917, and also as a member of the Chicago Society Of Etchers by at least 1930.
