"Cliff Palace" c. 1940-1942, Lithograph. Edition: 50. Signed in pencil, Eugene Kingman, lower right; also signed in the plate, center; numbered and titled, 50 Cliff Palace, lower left. Image: 9 x 12 inches (228 x 304 mm). Sheet: 11 1/8 x 15 3/4 inches (282 x 400 mm). Excellent condition. Good margins. Printed on white wove paper. Slight glue stain along upper sheet margin edge but well away from the image. Before becoming a cartographer for the OSS during World War II Eugene Kingman was involved as a photographer for Mesa Verde National Park, circa 1940-1942. As a photographer he worked with several others to produce a small but interesting volume on the mesa for the Mesa Verde Company. This lithograph probably dates from that period. Additional artist penciled information exists in the lower right corner, it reads "Cliff Ruins #1, Mesa Verde National Park, Colorado, $10.00." $900.00 |
