1927, Woodcut.
Edition: 50 (only 35 printed). Signed and dated in pencil, Howard Cook 1927, includes Cook's imp. annotation. Titled and numbered, Grand Canyon 50, lower left. Image: 12 1/16 x 15 inches (305 x 381 mm). Sheet: 12 1/2 x 17 1/2 inches (317 x 444 mm). Reference: Duffy and Duffy 1984:62 #44. Excellent condition. Good margins, left and right. Shallow top and bottom margins as issued. Printed on fine wove paper. An obvious early print of this image. In later prints the wood block had split horizontally along the upper right margin (about four inches from the upper right corner) the consequence was a horizontal white line that extended about 4 to 5 inches into the image. Probably why the print was abandoned at only 35 images. A great print of a grand canyon, or a grand print of a great canyon. A beautifully done woodcut by the, then, 26 year old artist. SOLD |
